  14. Spelling Helper For Windows is fun and challenging for kids to use to learn their
  15. spelling words.  It is perfect for a teacher to use in the classroom or for
  16. a parent to use at home to drill their children on their spelling words.

  18. The Spelling helper uses a tried and proven method of teaching children how to
  19. spell.  It takes a word, subtracts letters from it, and finally asks the child to
  20. type the complete word from memory.  This version, however, does not allow the
  21. user to save a spelling list.  He or she must type in the list each time the
  22. program is run.  This is not all that time consuming, but it can be tedious.

  24. This brings me to my next point.  Spelling Helper is shareware. That is to 
  25. say, it's not free. Shareware is a means of marketing software for those of 
  26. us who don't have a crack marketing department with a huge budget.

  28. The basic premise is that you get to try out the software before you buy it. 
  29. Once you've tried the product, and decided it is worth the cost, you send 
  30. in your registration fee and will receive the latest, greatest version of 
  31. the software. This process is known as Shareware Registration.

  33. In this case the latest and greatest version has some of the annoying aspects
  34. of the shareware version taken out. Such as, you can save and load spelling
  35. lists.  You can type in a new spelling list on Monday, save it, and then load
  36. the file each time you want to use it.  That is unlike the shareware version which
  37. makes you type in the words each time you run the program.  The real version also 
  38. loads **much** faster than the shareware version.  Another advantage to registering
  39. is that it gets rid of the nag screen, and you get the next version of this
  40. program free of cost.

  42. The registration price is $11 in the USA ($10 for the program, and $1 for
  43. shipping and future contact costs. The perfered method of ordering is for you
  44. to use CompuServe's Software Registration forum (GO SWREG) and use SWREG ID# 10454.
  45. If you are unable to use that method, you can send a check or money order for
  46. $11 through the mail to the address listed below.  If you use this method, then
  47. also include a card with your full name, address, phone number, and email address
  48. as all are required to complete the registration procedure.

  52. 2) Installation
  53.  
  54. Aside from the ZIP file SPELL.ZIP you will need one other file to
  55. successfully install and run Spelling Helper. You will need:
  56.  
  57.     VBRUN200.DLL
  58.  
  59. VBRUN200.DLL is the run-time module needed to run all programs written in
  60. the language Visual Basic. VBRUN200.DLL can be found on all on-line 
  61. services including CompuServe.  You probably already have this file. Once you 
  62. have VBRUN200.DLL uncompress it, and put this file in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM 
  63. directory.  It can also be put in the directory with the program, but placing
  64. it in the Windows directory gives other programs access to the file too.

  66. Installation couldn't be easier. Simply create a new directory and put all  
  67. the files from SPELL.ZIP into the directory.  If you want to add the file to
  68. a Windows Program Manager program group, simply drag the file from Windows file 
  69. manager to the program group where you wish for the file to reside.
